The Government of Montenegro adopted the Program of Economic Reforms

Last week, the Government of Montenegro adopted the Program of Economic Reforms for Montenegro for the period 2024-2026. It is a key document of the country’s economic policy. The program represents the basis for Montenegro’s dialogue with member states and EU institutions on issues of macroeconomic, fiscal, and structural reforms.

The Program of Economic Reforms is an instrument for planning the country’s economic policy and managing reforms, which aim to maintain macroeconomic stability, strengthen international competitiveness, and improve the conditions for inclusive growth. Also, it is a basic element of the “fundamental first” approach within Montenegro’s EU accession negotiations, especially in the area of meeting the Copenhagen economic criteria.

The main strategic goal of Montenegro’s economic policy is “achieving smart, sustainable, and inclusive economic growth that will contribute to improving the quality of life of all its citizens.” Economic policy measures in the medium term will be aimed at:

• diversification of economic activity and increase in the competitiveness of the economy;

• strengthening the resistance of the Montenegrin economy to external shocks;

• ensuring macroeconomic and fiscal stability;

• improvement of the business environment i

• launching a strong investment cycle.
